Proteles

Terms of Service

The terms on which Proteles is provided. Written to be read.

What Proteles is

A hosted identity provider: it signs your users in, holds their credentials, and issues tokens your applications trust. You create a workspace, register applications, and your users' accounts live inside it.

Your workspace, and who is responsible for what

You are responsible for what you build on Proteles and for the accounts inside your workspace — including keeping at least one owner able to administer it, and keeping your API keys secret. An API key is a credential: anyone holding one can act as your workspace.

We are responsible for running the service, keeping your users' credentials encrypted, and telling you when something goes wrong that affects you.

Acceptable use

Do not use Proteles to break the law, to send unsolicited messages, to attack other systems, or to store credentials for accounts you have no right to. Do not attempt to access another workspace's data. We may suspend a workspace that is doing any of these, and will say why.

Security research

Testing the security of your own workspace is welcome. Report anything you find to hello@proteles.com before disclosing it, and do not access data belonging to anyone else while looking.

Availability

We do not offer a service level agreement yet, on any plan, and you should not treat the service as having one until we do. Current status is at /status, which is served from separate infrastructure so that it can answer when the product cannot.

Plans and payment

Every workspace starts on the Free plan, which costs nothing and needs no card. The paid plans, Team and Business, and what each includes are described on the pricing page. You choose a paid plan from Billing in your workspace's console.

Paid plans are sold through Stripe, with Link (by Stripe) as the merchant of record. Link is the seller of your subscription: it takes the payment, charges any sales tax or VAT that applies, issues your receipts and invoices, and handles payment questions and disputes, and its own terms apply to the payment. We provide the service you are paying for.

Renewal. A paid plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period — each month or each year, as you chose — until you cancel it. Users past a plan's included monthly recurring users, and dashboard seats past those it includes, are charged at your plan's rates: the ones on the pricing page when you chose it.

Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from Billing in your console. Cancelling stops the next renewal: the plan stays in force until the end of the period you have paid for, and then your workspace moves to the Free plan and Free's limits apply to it, including its shorter log retention (see the Privacy Policy). If a payment fails, the plan stays in force while it is retried; if it still cannot be collected, the workspace moves to the Free plan.

Your plan does not change under you. We may change our plans and prices, but a change applies to plans chosen after it. While you stay on the plan you chose, you keep its price and what it includes, renewal after renewal — moving between monthly and yearly billing on the same plan keeps them too. If you move to another plan, or cancel and so move to the Free plan, you get that plan as it is offered then.

Refunds. Cancelling does not refund the period you are in. Refunds are made by Link, as the merchant of record, under its refund policy and the law where you live. If a charge looks wrong, write to us as well and we will help put it right.

Text messages

Proteles SMS alerts is our text message program. If you sign up for it on the SMS alerts page, by entering your mobile number and ticking the box, we send security and service messages about your own Proteles account to that number: one-time sign-in codes, alerts when a new device signs in or when your password, second factor or recovery codes change, and notice of unplanned downtime affecting your workspace. We do not send marketing messages. Signing up is not a condition of using Proteles or of any purchase.

Message frequency varies, and is no more than 6 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply.

Reply HELP to any message for help, or write to hello@proteles.com. Reply STOP to any message to cancel. Your reply goes to the number that sent it, you will get one message confirming that you are unsubscribed, and then no more. You can sign up again at any time on the SMS alerts page.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Your mobile number, and your opt-in and consent to receive text messages, are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. How we handle them is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Ending it

You can close your account at any time from /account, and delete your workspace's data. We may close an account that breaches these terms, and will tell you which term and why.

If we discontinue the service we will give notice and a way to export your data. We will not delete a workspace's data without notice.

Liability

Proteles is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for Proteles in the twelve months before the claim — which, on the Free plan, is nothing. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

We may change these terms. Material changes are announced before they take effect, and continuing to use Proteles afterwards means accepting them.
